Who We Are
Prairie Rose Burt
Manager/Yoga & Cycling Instuctor
I have been teaching yoga for 18 years. My love for yoga began back in 1999 when I was training for the Honolulu marathon. The more I practiced the more benefits I noticed especially being a runner and fitness lover. I completed a 1 year teacher training at Exhale Yoga in Seattle for beginning and vinyasa flow yoga. I have recently been studying and teaching Kundalini Yoga as well. I'm certified as well in Group Fitness and Indoor Cycling. Yoga and fitness is my passion. I love teaching and how it lights up my students eyes and hearts and puts a smile on their face, ready to face the world.
I first fell in love with yoga in the 1990s and has taken countless hours of trainings and workshops over the years. She began teaching yoga classes in Susanville in 2001. She encourages her students to challenge themselves while paying close attention to proper form: body awareness, use of props and mindfulness are integral to her teaching style. Her focus is working safely within each student’s boundaries while having fun!
I first came to Susanville in 1976 with my family. I graduated from high school in 1984 and moved away. For the past 30 years I’ve been living in Whittier, a town just southeast of Los Angeles, but just recently moved back. In 2013 I got certified as an ACE trainer (American Council of Exercise). Personal training is a passion of mine. I love to watch people of all types get stronger, leaner and more confident as they train. I’ve worked with people who’ve never picked up a weight, pregnant ladies and guys who needed to drop a few pounds. The gym is my sanctuary and the best place to relieve stress! I’m also an avid cyclist, both road and mountain, I go rock climbing when I can and I love hiking and camping too. I look forward to meeting all of the people who train here.
I know how hard it is to balance work, school, family, and exercise. I also know how beneficial exercise is for the mind and body. It doesn’t matter what kind of day I am having, if I move my body and break a sweat, I always feel better. After college I began a 20 year stretch of leading step aerobics, kick boxing aerobics, and HIIT classes. It was amazing to feel the energy of a group of people sweating and growing stronger. I decided to give indoor cycling a try three years ago and I was hooked. I love using a variety of drills and creating a class around the beat of the music. I hope to encourage others to lead an active lifestyle and leave class feeling so much better than when they walked through the door.
After practicing yoga for many years, I completely fell in love with my practice during my first yoga teacher training in the Prana Vinyasa style of yoga in 2016. Less than two years later, I was called to India to deepen my studies in an advanced intensive course very aligned with the traditional yogic path, which changed my outlook and life trajectory. Now I find myself passionate to share this practice of self-love with others, knowing that each one of us is completely capable of transformation of mind and body towards our highest selves. I love nature and the outdoors, plant life and plant medicine, am currently enrolled in an Ayurveda program for 2022 to further integrate mind-body balance, and recently certified in Thai Massage, which I enjoy bringing into restorative offerings.
As an Army veteran I bring a different dynamic to my classes! I hope to inspire, encourage, and motivate you to your best self. I love how a good workout makes me feel and I love sharing that with others. That passion led me to become an instructor at Mountain Yoga Studio! Having fun while improving health, pushing limits, and working out is my goal every time.
